Gloucester County Orchid Club celebrates 55 years

(Glassboro, NJ) The Orchid Club held their Scholarship Luncheon at Masso's on Saturday, May 12 and Freeholder Heather Simmons was in attendance and presented a Proclamation celebrating the club's 55th year anniversary.
The Orchid Club is a nonprofit organization made up of women throughout southern New Jersey. They are part of the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs and base their service to the community on education, employment, health and welfare, housing and legislation and are dedicated to promoting leadership among women by studying and planning innovative strategies to advance civic, economic and welfare issues and is an important institution for the African American community and the entire municipality of Glassboro.
They award yearly scholarships to African American high school students, donate baskets to the needy on Thanksgiving and Christmas, host annual senior citizen events, sponsor a Glassboro Little League baseball team and work diligently on information campaigns for school board, municipal, county and state elections.
