BETHLEHEM, PA (05/07/2018)-- Lehigh sophomore faceoff specialist Conor Gaffney was named the 2018 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete. He was one of 12 student-athletes selected to the Academic All-League team.

A first-time member of the Academic All-League Team, Gaffney is working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering and owns a 4.000 cumulative grade-point average. The Mount Laurel, NJ native has been named to the Dean's List on three different occasions and was an Academic Honor Roll honoree last year.

Gaffney was named to the All-Patriot League First Team for the first time. Gaffney has won 188-of-313 draws (.601) this season with 91 groundballs and four caused turnovers. Gaffney is Lehigh's first Scholar-Athlete of the Year since Jonathan Stumpf in 2011 and fourth in program history. He's just the second Scholar-Athlete of the Year from Lehigh to also be named first team All-League in the same season (the other being Michael Rabinovitz in 2002).

To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
