Letters to the Editor: New poll Shows NJ's Senator Menendez in trouble

A new poll from Farleigh Dickinson University shows disgraced Senator Bob Menendez clinging to a four-point lead in a matchup with businessman Bob Hugin.

The poll shows Menendez with the support of just 28% of voters, an astonishingly low number for a two-term incumbent that is sure to cause heartburn among Democrats hoping voters would overlook the Senator’s ethical lapses. Menendez’s woes are threatening to turn the state, which includes the expensive New York and Philadelphia media markets, into a financial black hole for Democrats. Just yesterday, the Chairman of Senate Democrats’ campaign arm, Chris Van Hollen, acknowledged the race would be a fight, and they would get financially involved if necessary. Such a move would have serious implications, not just in New Jersey, but across the Senate map.

“New Jersey voters have washed their hands of disgraced Senator Bob Menendez and are ready for someone new,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “Menendez has embarrassed the Garden State for long enough, and he will be replaced this November by Bob Hugin, a proven job creator who knows how to get things done.”
