Gloucester County Animal Shelter hosting first Kitten Shower

(Clayton, NJ) The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced today that the Gloucester County Animal Shelter will host a Kitten Shower on June 2, 2018 from noon to 3 p.m. to celebrate the upcoming arrival of new kittens as June is kitten season. The goal of the program is for people to donate supplies and to help the animal shelter recruit new foster families as well.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, "Baby showers have always been a great way for new families to get what they need to help support their new baby. With the upcoming arrival of new kittens, the Gloucester County Animal Shelter has decided to celebrate kitten season by hosting a shower."

Damminger said in order to help supply these new kittens with everything they need, this Kitten Shower will be modeled after a baby shower, where in place of the usual gifts, the GCAS is looking for donations of things the kittens will need.

Freeholder Dan Christy, Liaison to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter said, “June is adopt a shelter cat month which is when the shelter gets inundated with cats and kittens. This is the shelter's first year hosting an event like this for their Foster Program. It is not only a fun way to encourage residents to donate to the shelter and help support them, but also to find new potential foster families for these kittens and other animals in the shelter.”

There will be refreshments, activities for children, information on fostering and volunteering and prizes at the Kitten Shower.

Guess the Weight of the Litter: We’re going to pick a litter of kittens and people can write down their guesses for how much the litter of kitten weighs. Whoever comes closest without going over wins a pet supply basket.

For every donation that is received, one raffle ticket will be handed out. The more you donate, the better your chances of winning. One ticket will be drawn at the end of the event and the winner will win a pet basket.

The GCAS is looking for donations of the following:

Cat toys
Cat beds
Fleece blankets
Johnson’s Baby Shampoo
Kitten bottle kits
Cat nail clippers
21 Century brand kitten formula with colostrum
KMR kitten formula
Wet and dry KITTEN food (Royal Canin brand preferred)
Bowls: ceramic or stainless steel
Kitchen scales
Snuggle safe warmers
Gift cards to PetSmart, PetCo

The Kitten Shower will take place on June 2 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Gloucester County Animal Shelter at 1200 N Delsea Drive in Clayton.

The GCAS currently has eight to ten cats available in Cat Adoption, but by June 1 the shelter should have at least 30 cats available for adoption.
