GLOUCESTER CITY NJ (May 25, 2018)(CNBNewsnet)--The Gloucester City Police Department reminded residents that the law pertaining to cleaning up their properties will be strictly enforced. Violators face fines. The police department released the following statement.
Gloucester City residents please be advised that code enforcement personnel will be notifying property owners and tenants who are in violation of Gloucester City Code 25, "Brush, Weeds and Debris" and Code 66, "Property Maintenance". This will be an ongoing effort that will continue throughout the spring and summer season.
In summary, Code 25 specifies that grass, weeds or brush growing above the height of 10 inches from ground level shall be considered a nuisance. Additionally, Code 66-17A requires property owners and operators keep the premises free from hazards such as refuse and Code 66-17B requires property owners and operators maintain the premises so that it does not constitute a blighting factor for adjoining property owners.
A notice of violation will be sent to the property owner and tenant (if applicable). The notice will specify that the property owner and occupant have 5 days to abate the violation from the date of the notice. Please note that you are already in violation of the code once this notice is written; however, a fine will not be incurred if the grass is cut within the 5 day period allowed from the date of the notice.
If the violation is not abated at the end of the 5 day allowance period, court action shall be taken and citations will be served. Once citations are served, a court appearance is required and tickets will not be discussed or resolved outside of the court room. In addition, please be advised that multiple citations will be issued in accordance with Codes 25, 66-17A and 66-17B.
