TWIN LIGHTS MUSEUM IN MONMOUTH COUNTY REOPENS TO PUBLIC WITH NEW EXHIBITS
Wednesday, April 25, 2018
TRENTON (CNBNewsnet)-- At 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, April 25, the Twin Lights of the Navesink Historic Site in Highlands, Monmouth County, will reopen to the public with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the Twin Lights Museum's four new galleries and exhibits.
In addition to the museum reopening, Wednesday's event pays tribute to the first public reading of America's Pledge of Allegiance 125 years ago, on April 25, 1893. The new exhibits are themed to the Pledge of Allegiance, maritime history, local history, lifesaving and lighthouse technologies.
The first official reading of the Pledge of Allegiance took place during a ceremony around a 135-foot-high flag pole known as the Liberty Pole, which was among the first sights millions of immigrants saw as they arrived on ships to Ellis Island and their new lives in America.
The brownstone, castle-like structure of Twin Lights sits on headlands overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of the Navesink River. It has sweeping views of Sandy Hook, Raritan Bay and the ocean, and light towers on either end of a main building that today houses the museum.
The Twin Lights Historic Site is located at Lighthouse Road, Highlands 07732.
