CNB CRIME NEWS: Gloucester City Police Officer Nearly Struck by Alleged Drunken Driver

GLOUCESTER CITY NJ (April 27, 2018)(CNBNewsnet)--A Gloucester City police officer was nearly struck by a vehicle while directing traffic at the intersection of Broadway at King Street on April 25 around 5 PM.
According to the weekly crime report, Patrolman Joe Eller was directing traffic on Broadway at King Street when a vehicle nearly struck him and the driver appeared to be passed out. The vehicle then drifted to the side of the road. Patrolman Mike Calzonetti and K9 Blitz responded to assist and the male driver was found to be under the influence. After further investigation, Damion A. Stratton (33), a resident of Runnemede was arrested for DWI. He was additionally charged with possession of CDS (heroin) and Possession of a hypodermic syringe. At police headquarters, the male began to slip in and out of consciousness and was administered one dose of Naloxone. The male regained consciousness and refused further medical treatment. He was later released to a family member.

4/20 (1:05 pm) Kelly A. Hemphill (55), a resident of the unit block of S. Burlington Street, was arrested on King Street at Broadway by Ptl. Shea O’Donnell on warrants from Runnemede. She was later released on bail.
4/20 (2:00 pm) A traffic stop on Rt. 130 at Market Street conducted by Ptl. Barb Kane resulted in the arrest of Shaquana L. Bush (28), a resident of Camden. She was arrested on a warrant from Camden City and later released on bail.
4/20 (2:55 pm) A traffic stop on Mercer Street at King conducted by Ptl. George Spingler and Shea O’Donnell resulted in the arrest of John J. Schimanski (54), a resident of Runnemede. He was found to be a fugitive from justice wanted by the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and additionally charged with possession of CDS (heroin). He was later lodged in Camden County Jail.
4/21 (3:03 am) Cpl. Bill Johnson was called to Broadway at Monmouth Street for a crash involving two vehicles. No injuries were reported and subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Jason A. Gran (38), a resident of Ridley Twp., PA. He was charged with DWI and later released.
4/21 (11:40 am) A traffic stop on Rt. 130 at Market Street conducted by Ptl. Joe Eller resulted in the arrest of Gregory N. Gulizzi (40), a resident of West Deptford. He was arrested on a warrant from Haddon Twp. and later released on bail.
4/21 (7:57 pm) Ptl. Ben McKinney responded to a residence in the 200 block of Somerset Street for a reported overdose. Upon arrival, the (32) year old male resident was found unconscious and not breathing. Ptl. McKinney administered on dose of Naloxone and the male regained consciousness. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
4/22 (5:58 am) Ptl. Sean Gartland responded to a residence in the 900 block of Klemm Avenue of a reported overdose. Upon arrival, the (55) year old male resident was found unconscious and not breathing. Ptl. Gartland administered one dose of Naloxone and the male regained consciousness. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
4/22 (3:00 pm) A resident of the 700 block of Hunter Street reported a gas grill was stolen from his side yard. The investigation is ongoing
4/23 (9:14 am) Ptl. Bob Saunders III was called to Rt. 130 at Market Street for a crash involving two vehicles. No injuries were reported.
4/23 (10:32 am) Ptl. Brittany Pollander was called to Broadway at Market Street for a crash involving two vehicles. No injuries were reported.
4/23 (2:00 pm) A traffic stop on Broadway at Monmouth Street conducted by Ptl. Brittany Pollander resulted in the arrest of Ronald Daniels (53), a resident of the 500 block of Ridgeway Street. He was arrested on a warrant from Haddon Twp. and later released on bail.
4/23 (2:10 pm) A traffic stop on Rt. 130 at Market Street conducted by Ptl. Joe Eller resulted in the arrest of Nicholas H. Wyatt (30), a resident of Bellmawr. He was arrested on a warrant form Camden City and additionally charged with possession of CDS (crack cocaine) and driving without a license. He was later lodged in Camden County Jail.
4/23 (11:38 pm) A traffic stop on Broadway at Essex Street conducted by Sgt. Jim Little resulted in the arrest of Adam T. McDowell (35), a resident of National Park. He was arrested on a warrant from West Deptford and possession of CDS (prescription medication). Ptl. Blaise O’Donnell and K9 Demo were called to the scene to conduct an open air narcotics sniff around the exterior of the vehicle. K9 Demo alerted to the presence of narcotics odor and further investigation resulted in the recovery of drug paraphernalia. McDowell was charged with possession of CDS, obstruction of justice and driving on a suspended license. He was later released on bail. After his release, he began to act in a disorderly manner outside of police headquarters, disturbing the neighborhood at 2:10 am. He was arrested again by Sgt. Little and charged with disorderly conduct. Later in the morning, he was released.
4/24 (12:35 pm) Inv. Tim Ryder observed a male exit Apple Alley onto Railroad Avenue between Chambers and Paul Streets pulling a metal cart and carrying a gas can. He approached the male to speak with him and discovered the male had a warrant for his arrest from Camden City. David N. Macmaster (33), a resident of Sewell was arrested and additionally charged with possession of CDS (heroin and crack cocaine). Further investigation determined the items in his possession were picked from the trash. He was later released on bail.
4/24 (1:40 pm) Thomas E. Gaffney (41), a resident of the 400 block of Bergen Street, was arrested on Broadway at King Street by Ptl. Shea O’Donnell on a warrant from Camden City. He was later released on bail.
4/24 (4:01 pm) A resident of the 600 block of Division Street reported his bicycle was stolen from the front of the Gloucester City Library. The investigation is ongoing.
4/25 (12:53 am Officers responded to the unit block of S. Sussex Street for a reported dwelling fire. Upon arrival, officers evacuated residents from the area and GCFD personnel extinguished the fire. A (1) year old girl was transported to an area hospital for smoke exposure and no other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
4/25 (2:36 pm) A resident of the 300 block of Powell Street reported sometime overnight, his unlocked vehicle was burglarized and personal items were stolen. The investigation is ongoing.
4/25 (4:31 pm) While on patrol, Ptl. Shea O’Donnell and George Spingler observed a juvenile male on Broadway at George Street on a bicycle riding a wheelie against the flow of traffic on Broadway, forcing vehicles to stop. The (14) year old resident of St. John Street was taken into custody and turned over to his mother. He was scheduled for station house adjustment.
In addition, officers made (39) traffic stops, (216) property/business checks and (12) school visits. Officers made (18) arrests, responded to (13) domestic disputes, impounded (3) abandoned vehicles and managed (304) calls for service between April 20th. and April 26th.
