(GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP NJ )(April 28, 2018)(CNBNewsnet)--On Friday, April 27th, 2018 at approximately 10:41 pm, Gloucester Township Police responded to Hider Lane, in the Laurel Springs section, for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a telephone pole. Arriving officers found that a Chevy pickup truck had left the roadway, struck a telephone support pole and then rolled over and came to rest on a tree. Part of the support pole fell into the roadway where a second vehicle struck it. The driver of the pickup truck was identified as George Conforme. Neither driver was injured in the crashes.
Conforme displayed signs of intoxication while officers were speaking with him and was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated. His damaged vehicle was impounded per the New Jersey Attorney General Directive known as "Johns Law" which directs police to impound vehicles for a minimum of twelve hours when a driver is arrested for driving while intoxicated. Mr. Conforme was processed and later released to a relative. Hider Lane was closed for a short period of time while the support pole was repaired.
We are fortunate that no one was injured in the crash as it could have ended tragically. We want to remind everyone that if you are planning on drinking, don’t get behind the wheel. Designate a sober driver, use public transportation or one of the many ride share programs to get home safely.
