Coast Guard responds to fuel spill near Bayonne, New Jersey

NEW YORK NY (April 25, 2018)(CNBNewsnet)- - The Coast Guard is responding to a report of a spill of marine diesel fuel at the APM Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey, Wednesday afternoon.

APM Terminal notified the National Response Center that the fuel spilled into Newark Bay while a ship was refueling pier-side at the terminal.



The source of the spill has been secured and Coast Guard pollution responders are now on scene. Commercial clean-up crews have deployed boom to contain as much of the fuel as possible, while simultaneously recovering product from the waterway.

Coast Guard marine inspectors are also on scene to assess the condition of the vessels involved and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is providing trajectory models to assist in the product recovery.

Coast Guard personnel are actively investigating to determine the size and cause of the spill.
