GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (March 29, 2018)(CNBNewsnet)--On March 29, 2018 at 6:47AM Gloucester City Police Officers responded to the 400 unit block of Walnut Avenue for a reported vehicle crash.  Upon arrival, a vehicle was found on the front yard of a residence, on fire.  The driver resisted officer’s attempts to remove him from the vehicle and once he was moved away from the vehicle, he lost consciousness.  It was determined that he was experiencing an overdose and was administered one dose of Naloxone by Ptl. Ben McKinney.

The driver regained consciousness and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.  Fuel leaking from the vehicle to the street was ignited by the fire and two additional vehicles were damaged as well.

The fire was extinguished by Gloucester City Fire Department personnel and no other injuries were reported.

The driver, Shawn D. Durkin (26), a resident of Hammonton, was arrested and charged with DWI and several other traffic offenses.
