Wildwood Crest Resident Charged with Unlawful Taking and Computer Criminal Activity

Cape May Court House, New Jersey – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland announces the arrest of Amanda Thomas, age 25, of Wildwood Crest, New Jersey for Theft by Unlawful Taking and Computer Criminal Activity.
Upon receiving a complaint from the victim, an investigation was initiated by members of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crimes Unit. This investigation revealed that Thomas allegedly withdrew $5,000 from the victim’s bank account without the victim's knowledge.
On February 9, 2018, Amanda Thomas was charged with Computer Criminal Activity, a crime of the second degree, and Theft by Unlawful Taking, a crime of the third degree. Thomas was processed and released with a summons pending Court proceedings.
According to Prosecutor Sutherland, upon conviction, individuals charged with a crime of the second degree are subject to a term of 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison. Individuals charged with a crime of the third degree, upon conviction, are subject to a term of imprisonment of 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
