MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. – Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a Burlington Township man pled guilty today to fatally shooting a convenience store clerk in 2015 in Willingboro Township.

Eramus Canty, age 33, admitted in Superior Court that he killed Matthew Mwinsori, age 42, of Willingboro, following a robbery on November 25, 2015 at the Quick N Go convenience store in the 100 block of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Canty pled guilty to one count of Aggravated Manslaughter (First Degree). His prison term will be decided by the Hon. Philip E. Haines, J.S.C., who set sentencing for March 29.

Canty told Judge Haines that he went inside the store to rob Mwinsori, and at some point Mwinsori chased him out of the store into the parking lot, where Canty shot him following a struggle.

Mwinsori was taken to Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro, where he was pronounced dead approximately one hour after being shot.

Canty was arrested December 19, 2015 by police officers in Asbury Park, N.J. Information concerning Canty and his vehicle had been distributed to law enforcement officials after he was identified as a suspect by investigators.

An Asbury Park police officer spotted Canty’s red Dodge Charger pulling into a convenience store on Memorial Drive and requested a back-up unit to assist with the arrest. Canty was taken into custody without incident.

The investigation was conducted by the Willingboro Police Department, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor LaChia Bradshaw. The lead investigators were BCPO Major Crimes Unit Detective Tony Luyber and Willingboro Township Police Detective Jason Galiazzi.
