Cape May Court House, New Jersey – Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland announced that on February 20, 2018, Adam McCarraher, (24) years of age from the Villas section of Lower Township, New Jersey, was found guilty of Conspiracy to Possess a Controlled Dangerous Substance, specifically Sublingual Suboxone, Burprenorphine a Schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substance. A jury of McCarraher’s peers returned a guilty verdict agreeing with the State’s proofs after a one-week trial was complete. McCarraher is scheduled to be sentenced on April 6, 2018.
On August 27, 2015, the Cape May County Correctional Facility conducted an investigation of Controlled Dangerous Substances being surreptitiously brought into the Counties Correctional Facility under the direction of McCarraher. Through a thorough investigation conducted by members of the Correctional Facilities Investigations Unit it was discovered that the Controlled Dangerous Substance Suboxone, was placed into mail that would be delivered to the jail and eventually delivered to McCarraher. As a result of this investigation, this attempt failed as the illegal substance was intercepted by members of the Investigations Unit.
Prosecutor Sutherland recognizes the investigative work by officers from the Investigations Unit of the Cape May County Correctional Facility along with Assistant Prosecutor Ed Shim, which resulted in a guilty verdict of Conspiracy to Possess a Schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substance. Prosecutor Sutherland further stated that a person convicted of a third degree crime is subject to a term of imprisonment of 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
