Pemberton Township Man Indicted for Attempted Murder

PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP NJ--Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a 19-year-old man was indicted on attempted murder and weapons charges for shooting a Pemberton Township resident in the ear earlier this year.
Malik I. Mayberry, of the 100 block of Delap Court, was indicted on one count of Attempted Murder (First Degree), one count of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Second Degree) and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Second Degree).
The indictment was returned today and signed by Prosecutor Coffina. An arraignment will be scheduled soon in Superior Court.
The investigation revealed that on May 8, in the Sunbury Village of Pemberton Township, Mayberry approached a resident of Lemmon Avenue and began firing a handgun at his head, striking him once in the ear before the victim was able to retreat into his residence.
The victim was treated and released from Lourdes Emergency Department at DEBORAH in Pemberton Township.
The case was presented to the Grand Jury by Assistant Prosecutor Lisa Commentucci. It was investigated by the Pemberton Township Police Department with assistance from the Prosecutor’s Office. The lead investigator was Pemberton Township Detective Thomas Lucas.
An indictment is merely an accusation. Defendants are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
