ALARMING NEWS--New Jersey health officials and lawmakers are alarmed about the rising rate of certain sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and infections. An NJ1015.com review of state Health Department information reveals that STD cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis were recorded in nearly every community in New Jersey in 2015, the most recent year for which data is available.
New Jersey 101.5 ranked the Top 50 towns with the highest STD rates and incorporated STD statistics for all municipalities in an interactive map. These stats do not include HIV/AIDS cases, which the state measures separately. Young people are driving up the numbers. State officials say half the sexually active population will get an STD by the time they turn 25.
