PITMAN — There was a game earlier this season when Isabella Festa could have focused on scoring. The Gloucester City
senior forward is one of the team leaders in assists. No one would have questioned her if thought first about shooting. Instead, Festa’s main priority was setting up a teammate, so she could score a hat trick.

It’s been that type of selfish play that’s endeared Festa to her teammates, and why the Lions have made a 180-degree turn from last year to this year.

One goal was achieved on Monday, when Gloucester beat Pitman, 4-1, behind Festa’s season-high two goals and one assist. The Lions are now 11-4 overall, which almost doubles their victory total of a year ago, though more importantly, the victory gave Gloucester its first Tri-County Classic Division title since 2014, when this group of seniors were freshmen.

The Lions will open the NJSIAA, South Jersey, Group 2 tournament on Monday at Haddon Township.
