(National Park, NJ) – Gloucester County will hold its Annual 18th Century Field Day on Sunday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Red Bank Battlefield. This event is free and features reenactments of the “Battle of Red Bank” along with displays of colonial life and tours of the historic Whitall House.
Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “This is the 240th anniversary of the assault on Fort Mercer and residents and visitors of all ages will be able to see a reenactment of the battle on the grounds surrounding the original fort.”
Damminger said, “The Eighteenth Century Field Day celebration is the largest event the county holds at Red Bank Battlefield and it captures the history of Gloucester County and brings it to life.”
Freeholder Frank J. DiMarco, Liaison to the Department of Parks and Recreation said, “Eighteenth Century Field Day is a wonderful tradition that begins with a 10 mile run from Haddonfield to National Park that mirrors the run that Jonas Cattel made in 1777 when he went to warn the American patriots the Hessians were coming to attack Fort Mercer.”
DiMarco added, “The hard work and dedication of the employees and volunteers who put this event together is shown through the history and beauty of the area and is an educational experience you will not want to miss.”
