PHILADELPHIA, PA (July 28, 2017)Derek DeMaria, a 2013 Gloucester Catholic High School graduate, and
Bellmawr resident, has been named the new Assistant Baseball Coach at Division II University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
Gloucester Catholic head baseball coach Adam Tussey said Derek is a great guy and will do well in his new position.
"I'm sure he's going to take things he's learned from Gloucester Catholic and apply that to his new gig. I want to wish Derek the best of luck as he begins his coaching career."
DeMaria, who played on four consecutive New Jersey State Championship teams with the Rams from 2010-2013, recently graduated from the science based university in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and Wellness Management. He played second base for four years at the university, finishing in the top 15 in numerous career statistical categories including double plays, assists, total chances, and sacrifice hits.
His .957 fielding percentage ranks near the top of the list for infielders, where he only committed 13 errors in over 300 chances in his career.
Kevin Woodbridge, Head Baseball Coach at University of the Sciences said, " Derek cares as much as anyone about the program and I know he will
help us to get to our ultimate goals."
Athletic Director Marc Caserio said, "It is a pleasure to give Derek the opportunity to follow his dreams with this hire. I have a great feeling he has a successful coaching career ahead of him."
