Coast Guard tows disabled vessel 110 miles east of Cape May

PHILADELPHIA, Pa (May 30, 2017)--— The Coast Guard towed a disabled sailing vessel with two people aboard to the Cape May Harbor today.
Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders were notified by the cruise ship Norwegian Breakaway at about 4 a.m. Monday that the 50-foot sailing vessel Blue Nomad had become disabled about 110 miles east of Cape May.
The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Ibis was dispatched to assist the crew of the sailing vessel and took the vessel in tow at about 10 p.m.
The Ibis crew transferred the tow to two 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crews from Coast Guard Station Cape May early Tuesday morning and arrived at Cape May Harbor at 6:30 a.m.
"The Coast Guard is thankful to the Norwegian Breakaway for reporting the disabled vessel to us," said Dave Umberger, a command duty officer at Sector Delaware Bay. "Without their timely notification, our ability to provide assistance to the sailors could've been delayed."
