Rider's Tecco Named College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University sophomore baseball player Richie Tecco (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner) was named the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week on Monday evening as announced by the website.

It marked the first time in his young career that he has earned recognition for his play on the field. He becomes the second Bronc this spring to be honored by College Sports Madness after freshman Kyle Johnson (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) was tabbed as the conference's Player of the Week in mid-March.

“It’s well deserved,” Rider Head Coach Barry Davis said. “Richie has battled all year to improve his game. He’s been solid defensively and his offense has picked up, giving the team quality at-bats.”

In three starts last week, Tecco hit .500 (6-for-12) with eight RBIs, two runs scored and two doubles. He registered an impressive .538 on-base percentage in a trio of Rider wins, while stealing a base and racking up a .667 slugging percentage. He had two hits and two or more RBIs in all three of his starts last week for Rider. Defensively, he had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage thanks to making seven putouts and adding eight assists.

The Broncs return to action on Wednesday, April 12, with a home non-conference clash against Wagner that is set to begin at 3:30 pm from Sonny Pittaro Field. The tilt is the first of four straight home games for Rider as the Broncs enter the contest on a five-game winning streak.
