GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ April 28, 2017– The long-awaited opening ceremony of Gloucester Township Field of Dreams is scheduled for this Saturday, April 29 at 247 Little Gloucester Road, Gloucester Township, NJ. Gloucester Township Field of Dreams is an organized baseball league for special needs children and adults which enable them to have fun by playing baseball at a field specifically designed for them.
Each game will typically last 60 minutes. The games are non-competitive in nature, with each player batting, running the bases, and scoring each inning. Volunteers called “Buddies” will be assigned to each individual to assist throughout the game. The Buddy is there to protect the player from balls, assist the player in batting and running the bases and to be a friend on and off the field. Many players from other leagues in the Township have signed up to be Buddies. There are no losers, only winners with scores tied at the end of each game.
“We look forward to throwing our first pitch at Gloucester Township Field of Dreams this Saturday. Field of Dreams is a baseball “diamond” that is totally handicapped accessible with synthetic surface that will easily allow the use of wheelchairs and walkers. So every child and adult in our community and beyond no matter their baseball skills level has an opportunity to join in and play ball!” said Mayor David R. Mayer.
