You brought a puppy home and everything went great. Fido was part of the family; sweet, obedient, housebroken. But then he turns two and everything changes. Your dog turns into a stubborn, chewing, snarling creature that refuses to follow commands. What happened?
What happened is that your dog has become (in dog years) a 14-year-old human. His emotions are running rampant, his testosterone has gone crazy (if he hasn't been neutered) and if you have a female, her hormones are fluctuating madly. Fortunately, this is a temporary stage and will not last too long.
If you find yourself frustrated during this period of your dog's life please be aware that establishing firm boundaries is an essential tool. Be firm but fair and enforce a time-out rule during Fido's most disobedient periods--he needs to know that his temper tantrums will result in isolation each and every time he acts out.
With understanding and quality time your dog will outgrow unwelcome behaviors and become your best buddy, again.
If you have questions about this or any other dog-related issues please give us a call at 856.981.8957. We are here to help you.
Wado udohiyu, (thank you very much in the Cherokee language)
