Rams Alumni Mary Gedaka Big East Rookie of the Week

Villanova freshman forward Mary Gedaka (Mullica Hill, N.J.) has been named the Big East Rookie of the Week for her play in three games last week. Gedaka averaged 14.7 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per contest in helping the Wildcats to a 3-0 week.
Her best performance of the week came at Butler on Friday, Jan. 20, when she recorded her first career double-double with a career-high 20 points and a career-best 10 rebounds to go with four assists, two steals and a block. She scored four of the 20 points in overtime to help Villanova rally from a 22 point deficit to win the game.
In yesterday’s victory at Xavier, Gedaka scored a game-high 18 points on 9-of-14 shooting. She also added eight rebounds (six offensive) and two assists.
On Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Penn, Gedaka came off the bench to tally six points and eight rebounds in a 60-48 win.
Gedaka has played in all 20 games this season and is averaging 5.4 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per contest in 14.5 minutes per game.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Jan. 28, with a road game at Georgetown. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. Villanova has won five in a row and seven of its last eight to improve to 11-9 overall and 6-3 in Big East Conference play.
Gedaka was a star basketball player for Gloucester Catholic High School, Gloucester City NJ .
