Coach David Pauley who is in his 17th season as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at the University of the Sciences in 2016-17, having taken over the reigns of the program from longtime head coach Bob Morgan at the start of the 2000 season.
The Devils recorded one of their best seasons in program history during the 2014-15, notching a 25-6 record and advancing to the NCAA Tournament East Region Semi-Finals before bowing out to eventual region champion Southern New Hampshire University. The men’s basketball team also won their first ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Southern Division Regular Season title.
USciences’ success in 2014-15 earned Coach Pauley the CACC Coach of the Year honors as well as the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year and the National Association of Basketball Coaches East Region Coach of the Year. The team also earned the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award in 2014-15.
In 2014-15, Pauley became the second coach in program history to record 200 wins, reaching the milestone in the Devils final regular season game with a win over Georgian Court University. The team added a CACC tournament quarterfinal win and a win in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament to up coach Pauley’s total to 202 wins.
In 15 years as head coach Pauley has recorded a 202-212 record. During his tenure, the Devils have qualified for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference playoffs 11 times. The team reached the conference tournament semi-finals in 2014-15. The team advanced to the CACC Tournament Championship game in 2007, losing by one, 61-60 to Caldwell College. As head coach, Pauley oversaw the team’s transition from a longtime NAIA program to its current NCAA Division II status and from an independent school to a member of the CACC. Pauley’s men’s basketball squads have also earned the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award four times since the 2008-09 season.
A longtime supporter of small college basketball in the Philadelphia area, Pauley still serves on the executive board of the
Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association. David was awarded the organization’s John McAdams Service Award in 2006 for his years of dedication and commitment to supporting and promoting small college basketball in the Philadelphia Area. The organization has honored him as the Sam Cozen Coach of the Year in 2007 and again in 2014-15.
A graduate of Temple University in 1979, Pauley received his Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and an M.Ed in 1981. After graduation, he taught at Yeadon High School and then at Hammonton High School before moving into the college ranks. He now resides in Barrington, New Jersey with his wife Christine and his son, David.
