SAVE THE DATE: Rider University First Pitch Dinner January 21; Special Guest, John Barr

The Rider University baseball team will have its ninth annual First Pitch Dinner on from 6-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017, in the Cavalla Room of the Bart Luedeke Center on campus.

The special guest will be former Bronc baseball player and current Major League Baseball executive John Barr ’79.

Barr just completed his 32nd season as a Major League Baseball executive, including the last nine with the San Francisco Giants. With the Giants, Barr oversees amateur and international scouting. Under his guidance, the Giants drafted 2010 Rookie of the Year Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt, Joe Panik and Matt Duffy, all of whom contributed to the Giants’ three World Series titles.

The Audubon, NJ native left his well-paid and promising job with Merrill Lynch and entered the front office ranks in 1984 with the New York Mets and was the East Coast Supervisor for the Minnesota Twins in 1988. He served as Scouting Director with the Baltimore Orioles and was the Assistant GM with the San Diego Padres. He spent 10 years with the L.A. Dodgers as the East Coast Supervisor.

Barr was inducted into the Mid Atlantic Scouts Hall of Fame in 2008 and into the Professional Scouting Hall of Fame in 2009.

Barr currently resides in Haddonfield, NJ.
