December 27, 2016 Bill Donohue comments on religious exemptions to federal legislation: President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to work with people of faith on many matters, and his goodwill is very much appreciated. Among the most pressing issues is the fate of religious exemptions to federal laws. The Obama administration has waged war on religious institutions in many ways: it has sought to redefine Catholic institutions by forcing them to provide coverage for abortion-inducing drugs in their healthcare plans, and has denied funds to Catholic institutions that fight human trafficking (this was payback for opposing abortion). It has also sought to undo legislative provisions that are religion-friendly. Moreover, these attacks have inspired radical secularists to do likewise at the state level. One of the many ways the Obama administration has sought to undermine religious organizations is to deny the kinds of religious exemptions that have traditionally been granted by previous...

Rodriguez ruled last week that a Bellmawr police officer and a Brooklawn police officer can be sued for trying to stop a man from committing suicide. The judge noted the boroughs' officers were not taught how to deal with suicidal or barricaded people like the knife-wielding Wood, who was fatally shot after police responded to his 911 call threatening suicide. Rodriguez said two officers who entered Wood's Bellmawr apartment "were undisputedly trying to help" the distraught man. A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside. 'Your son is here,' she said to the old man. She had to repeat the words several times before the patient's eyes opened. Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man's limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement. The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed.All throug h the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man's hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile. He refused. Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the...

DOVER DELAWARE(Dec. 22, 2016) – The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has adopted a process for abbreviated review and approval of shellfish aquaculture leases by DNREC’s Division of Water following a comprehensive review conducted by the Division of Fish & Wildlife on a significantly-reduced number of acres than allowed for under state regulation, while also limiting operations in Little Assawoman Bay approved under the process to growing only hard clams. DNREC Secretary David Small this week approved a Statewide Activity Approval (SAA) for use in considering applications for leasing state subaqueous lands for shellfish aquaculture in Little Assawoman, Rehoboth and Indian River Bays. The SAA will only be applicable to 343 acres rather than the 442 acres that were approved as shellfish aquaculture development areas (SADA) under regulations adopted in 2014. DNREC expects that most aquaculturists will seek SAA approvals due to the abbreviated process allowed, rather than...

image source: http://imagesyard.com/ See Also: Canine Influenza FAQ Canine influenza (CI, or dog flu) in the U.S. is caused by the canine influenza virus (CIV), an influenza A virus. It is highly contagious and easily spread from infected dogs to other dogs through direct contact, nasal secretions (through barking, coughing or sneezing), contaminated objects (kennel surfaces, food and water bowls, collars and leashes), and by people moving between infected and uninfected dogs. Dogs of any breed, age, sex or health status are at risk of infection when exposed to the virus. In early 2016, a group of cats in an Indiana shelter were infected with H3N2 canine influenza (passed to them by infected dogs), and the findings suggested that cat-to-cat transmission was possible. Unlike seasonal flu in people, canine influenza can occur year round. So far, there is no evidence that canine influenza infects people. However, it does appear that...

By Emily Leayman / December 21, 2016 / WATCHDOG.ORG In the Fraser Institute’s annual Economic Freedom of North America report, Pennsylvania fared well, ranking 18th among the states. But on significant points like government spending and taxes, the Keystone State could do better. Pennsylvania ranked 30th on government spending and 37th on income and payroll taxes as a percentage of personal income. On property taxes and other taxes, it was 29th. “There’s a connection between high government spending and slower economic growth,” Elizabeth Stelle, director of policy analysis for the Harrisburg-based Commonwealth Foundation, told Watchdog.org. “If we want a vibrant economy, if we want people to be able to find jobs, if we want people to prosper, then this study shows we need to reduce government spending and we need to have a better tax structure.” Economic Freedom of North America 2016 A TAXED NATION: Pennsylvania tied for 18th in...
