The Church Of Sacred Heart In Trenton, St. Mary’s Hospital Cancer Research, Hope 101, and Catholic Social Services Are All Recipients of Student Support
November 22, 2016 -- Yardley, PA -- Grey Nun Academy (GNA) students gave thanks this week by delivering six carloads of food to help feed the poor and hungry for Thanksgiving through The Church of the Sacred Heart in Trenton, New Jersey. Students also collected monetary donations and helped to distribute food, including 20 turkeys with all the trimmings.
“Volunteerism is an integral part of every child’s education at Grey Nun Academy, where our curriculum is aimed at enriching a child’s intellectual development alongside their spiritual, social, and emotional growth as well,” said Deborah Kost, Head of School, Grey Nun Academy. “Campus ministry plans monthly service efforts to inspire students to make a difference by integrating learning with faith and action. Through these important programs, we are developing compassionate and responsible individuals who want to effect positive change on the lives of those in need.”
In September, GNA students collected hygiene products for Hope 101, a non-profit, non-denominational organization focused on lending a helping hand to those in need. 100% of financial donations received go directly to purchasing food and clothing for the homeless, for families in need, and for veterans in despair.
In recognition of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, GNA student council members organized a pink & denim dress down day to raise money for cancer research through St. Mary’s Hospital Cancer Research, one of only 25 distinguished Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Programs in the country.
Throughout the month of December, students and families will participate in a gift-giving program in support of Catholic Social Services to purchase much-needed clothing items for children in underserved areas.
“From the earliest stages of learning and development, students at GNA are educated to their responsibility in justice to satisfy the needs of the poor and needy, and they take that opportunity very seriously,” added Kost.
