King Street and Jersey Avenue is underway. According to Robert Bevan, an aide to the mayor, this is the first time the marina has been dredged since it was built 12 years ago.

T.R Weniger of Piscataway N.J is the contractor. Weniger, the low bidder, is being paid $368,941 for the project. The City had put the job out for bid three times. Bevan said the other bids were  in the $600,000 range. Bevan said the City had the dredge material tested and found it could be used at the South Port development, which is a few blocks from the marina. “This saved the City $250,000 in transportation fees,” said Bevan.

“The money for the project is coming from an old bond issue and also from a new one. The work should be completed by January 2017, weather permitting,” said Bevan.

recreation equipment has been erected on the old Cherry and Division Streets playground recently. According to Gloucester City Administrator Jack Lipsett, the playground was rebuilt through a $25,000 grant the City received from the Camden County Recreational Grant program.

Rubberized mulch, which is very soft, is spread under the new equipment. The contractor for the job was Lyons’s Landscaping, of Stratford N.J.

A few feet away from the playground is the new Gloucester City middle school that is almost completed.
