CNB The Local Music Scene: Cheap Dinosaurs

Dino looking up(CNBNewsnet) GLOUCESTER CITY N.J. October 21, 2016--You may have seen him getting off the bus at Broadway & Market, here in Gloucester City. You may have wondered what such a 'different' looking person was doing here in town. He's not here to make trouble--he's here to visit his mother, a Gloucester City resident!

Dino Lionetti is the creator of Cheap Dinosaurs, a progressive rock, chiptune group that is taking the Philly music scene by storm. Lionetti plays keyboards, synthesizer, and the cheap 'dinosaurs' of hand-held, interactive video players, Atari and Gameboy. The play on Lionetti's first name is a secondary, tongue-in-cheek reference.

The band was created at the height of the chiptune music genre and its original sound and multiple albums have kept the group playing, nation-wide. The album, High Strangeness, was created as the soundtrack for the video game of the same name, with Lionetti composing and performing the pieces.

Cheap Dinosaurs plays many venues, from the hugely popular MAGfest (music and gaming festival) to the smaller rooms such as Boot and Saddle in Philadelphia. The joy of their sound seems to be the motivating factor and as such, few venues are forsaken.

If you would like to see and hear Cheap Dinosaurs perform just Google the group or Dino Lionetti and prepare to be amazed; it's a sound and performance like no other.
