GLOUCESTER CITY NJ-(cnbnewsnet)It's football season and time to go down Memory Lane back to 1957 and the Gloucester VFW Colts (110 lb weight limit) -- possibly the best football team to ever play under the Gloucester CITY banner.
Not only were the Colts undefeated, but also unscored upon. In fact, a challenge to play any team in the nation (same age/weight class) was broadcast on the TODAY SHOW with Dave Garroway. There were no takers. However, a late response was received from a league in Massapequa, NY. League officials accepted the challenge with a stipulation. They would field a team consisting of their league's all-stars. Gloucester went on to prevail 26-0, thus keeping their undefeated and unscored upon record intact.
