Weasel Zippers | Scouring the bowels of the internet | This is typical Clinton. No, he didn’t say any such thing, his evidence showed repeatedly that she was lying about the email. What he did say was he had no reason to believe that she wasn’t truthful in the 3 hour interview his people had with her. (photo Fox News) Via Daily Caller: Hillary Clinton on Sunday insisted that FBI Director James Comey said that her answers to the American public regarding her handling of emails containing classified information were truthful, but this was disputed by host Chris Wallace. “The emails… I want to ask you about just one aspect of them, and that’s what you told the American people,” Wallace said to the Democratic nominee on “Fox News Sunday.” Fox then played three separate clips in which Clinton said she did not send or receive any classified material via...

July 29, 2016 Weekly Wastebasket Volume: XXI No. 30 Fun in the sun may be costing you more than you think. A sobering fact: If you go to a beach along the East or Gulf Coasts this summer, chances are you’ll have paid for some of that sand on which you lay your blanket. Many beaches have not been sculpted for free by Mother Nature but constructed with tax dollars by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In reality, the forces of the ocean overpower those of man and in most cases that sand – and dollars – washes out to sea. The federal sand-pumping program began in earnest in the 1960s. Projects are typically authorized for 50 years and include several “renourishments” over time. An early federal project, Carolina Beach, NC, was first authorized in 1965 and has had 26 separate episodes of beach renourishment, costing more than $73...

Political hangover: Conventions are over, bill goes to taxpayers By M.D. Kittle | Pennsylvania Watchdog PHILADELPHIA – The major parties’ political pep rallies may be over, but the costs live on for American taxpayers. While the 113th Congress in 2014 eliminated the 40-year-old Presidential Election Campaign Fund – and the $18-plus million that went to each party committee for its convention, the 114th Congress passed a law giving a combined $100 million – $50 million to each committee – to cover security costs. Undisclosed is the money the Secret Service spends to protect the nominees and their families and President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and the first and second ladies. July 25, 2016 AMES, Iowa – David Andersen, an assistant professor of political science at Iowa State University, says the presidential election is Hillary Clinton’s to lose. Clinton will officially become the nominee this week at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Andersen says his Top 5 strategies for Hillary Clinton are not nearly as critical as the Top 5 recommendations he outlined last week for Donald Trump. 1. Increase favorability: Watch the accompanying video to see why Andersen says Clinton must get people to like her and why that will be no small feat. 2. Run a positive campaign: “Clinton is failing at this right now. If she can run a positive campaign and avoid the temptation to attack Donald Trump, she’s going to look like she’s above the fray. People don’t like Clinton because they don’t trust her and they think she’s a mean person. She doesn’t want...

Names like Lee Saunders, president of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. Richard Trumka, head of the AFL-CIO. And Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers. These union chieftans are on hand at this week’s convention to make sure they are getting what they are paying for. “Get on your feet. Let’s change the rules. Let’s take back Congress. Let’s get a pro-worker Supreme Court and let’s elect Hillary Clinton the next president of the United States,” Trumka told a boisterous convention hall. Trumka and his Big Labor friends have spent a combined $93 million thus far in the 2016...

N.J. Sierra Club The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) issued their Administrative Order to implement their Flood Hazard Rules with some of the changes from the Concurrent Rule. The DEP has already signed their hazardous Flood Hazard Rules into effect, allowing developers to gain permits under these weak rules that will be active even if we can get better rules in the future. Even with this Administrative Order, the Flood Hazard Rules will still increase pollution and flooding in New Jersey. “The Senate has sold out our clean water to the Christie Administration by supporting this Administrative Order. This was an excuse not to block the Flood Hazard Rules from going into place. This was a dirty deal for dirty water. Katrina Trinko / @KatrinaTrinko PHILADELPHIA—Young Democrats appear to be part of the coalition championing that dictum from William Faulkner: “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” I expected the youth caucus meeting at the Democratic National Convention, which I attended Wednesday, to focus almost entirely on current liberal concerns such as student loans, jobs, LGBT issues, and climate change. (Given the near absolute lack of mentions of terrorism on the convention’s main stage, I wasn’t so naïve that I expected any talk about the Islamic State terrorists or national security.) But this was no MSNBC event, and far from leaning forward, two of the three participants on a panel went on extended diatribes about the United States’ history to a room with enough empty chairs to satisfy an army of Clint Eastwoods. Sitting about half a mile from Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution...

x Comment from resident 11 people sat there and watched these senior citizens pleading for their livelihood and showed little concern. Property values go down and their taxes go up. My mother and father-in-law both live in Blackwood and received enormous tax hikes. They are on fixed incomes and their tax freeze went right back to Gloucester Township taxes. The schools are a disgrace and the performance levels are abysmal. Houses are foreclosing left and right and getting boarded up. Homeowners assessments are outrageous compared to what the houses are worth. What exactly are you doing for the tax payers? For those on a fixed budget. Social Security didn't give a COL increase and yet you somehow think that by increasing their taxes, things will get better. I grew up in Gloucester Township, graduated from Highland, and now raising kids here but the minute my son graduates, we are going...

These revisions include a 12.5 percent increase in the Petroleum Products Gross Receipts Tax, a four-cent diesel surcharge and a seven percent tax on non-motor-fuel petroleum products to fund the TTF, which would run out of money on August 10th. Instead of moving forward with the Assembly’s plane to eliminate the sales tax, they will move forward with the Senate’s plan to give a $20 million tax break to motorists and veterans. Berkeley Lab study identifies two additional carcinogens not previously reported in e-cigarette vapor. Newswise — While previous studies have found that electronic cigarettes emit toxic compounds, a new study from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) has pinpointed the source of these emissions and shown how factors such as the temperature, type, and age of the device play a role in emission levels, information that could be valuable to both manufacturers and regulators seeking to minimize the health impacts of these increasingly popular devices. The study, which was published in Environmental Science & Technology, found that the thermal decomposition of propylene glycol and glycerin, two solvents found in most “e-liquids” (the substance that is vaporized by the e-cigarette), leads to emissions of toxic chemicals such as acrolein and formaldehyde. “Advocates of e-cigarettes say emissions are much lower than from conventional cigarettes, so you’re better off using e-cigarettes,” said Berkeley Lab...

The EPA was directed to set standards for radioactive materials under Reorganization Plan No. 3 (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Public Meeting: Aug. 16 at 7:00 p.m., Kearny Town Hall (New York, N.Y. – July 27, 2016) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a plan to clean up contamination at the Standard Chlorine Chemical Company, Inc. Superfund site in Kearny, N.J. The site is part of the N.J. Meadowlands and on the banks of the Hackensack River. Fred Lucas / @FredLucasWH / July 25, 2016 The American Medical Association is sticking by its influential report asserting that unborn babies cannot feel pain at 20 weeks, despite subsequent studies finding otherwise. Three of the report’s five authors had or later would have ties to the abortion industry. The Journal of the American Medical Association defended the report and declined a pro-life research group’s request for a retraction. However, the AMA publication’s top editor recently said the study wasn’t presented as the definitive, final word on the issue of fetal pain. But despite its being 11 years old, mainstream media outlets such as The New York Times and Los Angeles Times cited the study as authoritative in the recent debate over banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists also has cited the study during the debate over banning late-term abortions. “The paper’s...

Terri Shepherd / July 26, 2016 Three years after he was convicted of murder, Kermit Gosnell’s shuttered abortion clinic still stands mere miles from Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center, home to this week’s Democratic National Convention. As Democrats gather in the city to anoint their presidential candidate, film director and citizen journalist David Altrogge is preparing the release of a new film, “3801 Lancaster: American Tragedy.” The award-winning documentary, hailed by media commentators including Jake Tapper and Anderson Cooper on CNN, will release on iTunes and Amazon Video on Aug. 2. The documentary tells the true story of Gosnell and Altrogge cannot help but express outrage after careful research of the facts. “Real women and babies lost their lives—because the Pennsylvania Department of State and the Department of Health chose to look the other way,” he said in a recent interview. “Whether you’re pro-life or pro-choice, can’t we at least agree...

Written by Joanna Gardner The word “gleaning” probably conjures biblical images. But the practice is actually alive and well in New Jersey in the modern day. In particular, an organization called Farmers Against Hunger, a program of the New Jersey Agricultural Society, is making it easy for volunteers to participate in this ancient practice and for farmers to do good with their surplus. Catholic Charities workers pick cucumbers in Pedricktown on their Staff Day of Mercy, July 14. Some of the vegetables went to food pantries, and the rest were distributed by Farmers Against Hunger to agencies that feed the hungry throughout the region. Photo by Joanna Gardner Gleaning is the practice of allowing the poor to harvest the surplus produce from a farmer’s field.
