LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Rider University baseball coach Barry Davis has added Harrison McClure of North Atlanta, Georgia, a slugging outfielder/pitcher from the Florida Junior College ranks, to his 2017 squad.
“We are excited Harrison chose Rider to further his education and baseball career,” said Davis, the 2015 MAAC Coach of the Year. “I expect him to contribute immediately in the outfield and on the mound.”
As a sophomore last season at South Florida State College in Avon Park, McClure batted .309, collecting 54 hits in 50 games, including a team-high 13 doubles and two home runs, with 39 RBI. He was one of only three members of his team that had more walks than strikeouts, with an on base percentage over .400.
“He will give us added punch in a lineup that sorely needs it,” said Davis, who saw his 2016 team miss the MAAC playoffs for just the second time in the last nine seasons.
As a pitcher last year McClure appeared in 13 games and had a 1-1 record with three saves.
As a rookie at South Florida State he batted .325 with 62 hits, including 12 doubles and two home runs, with 32 RBI. He only pitched five innings as a freshman but they were all scoreless.
“He’s competed against some of the best in the Florida JUCO Suncoast Conference so he is ready to compete,” Davis said.
