Rider Presents Team Awards

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Rider University baseball team presented its individual awards recently.

Junior Lee Lipinski (Glen Arm, MD/Calvert) was named the team Most Valuable Player, sophomore Nick Margevicius (North Royalton, Ohio/St. Ignatius) was named the Most Valuable Pitcher and junior Tyler Kaiser(Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) was named the Most Improved Player.

Lipinski played in 47 games, starting 44, and led the team in RBI (27) and home runs (five) and was second in walks (21). Lipinski started 39 games behind the plate and threw out 19 runners attempting to steal.

Margevicius earned Second Team All-MAAC honors this season. The left-hander owned a team-best 2.57 earned run average which ranked second best in the MAAC. He also led Rider in victories (four) and strikeouts (67 in 77 innings). His strikeout total was sixth most in the MAAC. Against MAAC teams Margevicius was 3-2 with a 1.53 earned run average. He struck out 35 MAAC batters while walking just seven in 47 innings.

Kaiser started all 51 games and had 50 hits, 33 more hits than he had his first two seasons combined. Kaiser led the team in doubles (15) and triples (three) and was second on the team in home runs (four) and runs scored (30).
