Masterson pitched the final two innings in scoreless relief for winning pitcher Montefusco who improved his record to 9 - 0 on the season. Masterson was masterful on the mound dropping his ERA and picking up his second save of the season. With the round 1 win the Roadrunners advanced into the second round to play #3 Nationally Ranked Brookdale College.
In the second round game the Roadrunners started quickly against Brookdale College, a team RCGC lost to twice during the regular season. In the first inning Eric Schorr (Audubon HS) welcomed Brookdale to RCGC with a three run homer. But a game that started in beautiful sunshine in a cold wet rain continued putting crooked numbers on the scoreboard.
The game changed leads 5 times throughout the game and Brookdale answered
everything RCGC could do. As the rain started and with darkness falling Rowan again went to Masterson in the 8th inning relieving pitcher Matt Parr (Gloucester Catholic) down 8-6 to Brookdale. Masterson threw a scoreless 8th and 9th inning. With Rowan down to it's final out in the ninth, they plated two runs with the big blow an infield tying single by Jake Gillis (Gloucester Catholic HS). Gillis slid into first base just beating the throw allowing Masterson into work the 10th inning with the game tied 8 - 8 game. Entering the top of the 10th Brookdale could not answer Masterson. After a 1-2-3 tenth inning by Masterson, RCGC came to bat in a tied game in the bottom of tenth for the Roadrunners. with no outs a double by Matt Woods (Eastern HS) off the top of the centerfield fence with a runner on first put runners on 2nd and 3rd. After a fielders choice out at the plate the bases remained loaded until Niles Malveasia plated the winning run on a fly ball to right. With the run Masterson completed his day with a save in Round one and a win in Round 2 with 6 scoreless innings.
Rowan enters the Championship game 3:00 Sunday at Cumberland College.
