WINSLOW POLICE ARREST TWO FOR POSSESSION OF A HANDGUN AND HEROIN

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP--Officer Matthew Regan #199 was conducting stationary radar patrol along Williamstown Road. A silver Land Rover passed Officer Regan at a high rate of speed. Officer Regan followed behind the vehicle which was being driven erratically, passing cars and swerving across the roadway. The officer continued to attempt to stop the vehicle which eventually stopped at the intersection of Taunton Road and Tansboro Road.
Once stopped, Officer Regan began his investigation into the two passengers, driver James Thomas and passenger Jameel Johnson. Thomas was eventually placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Search incident to his arrest revealed that he was in possession of a bullet in his pocket and was also in possession of 17 packets of heroin.
The passenger Jameel Johnson was also wanted on an outstanding warrant. He too was placed under arrest.
Further investigation revealed that they were in possession of a loaded handgun which was found inside the vehicle. Thomas and Johnson were transported to Headquarters to be processed. Thomas was charged with possession of heroin, possession of a handgun, certain persons not to have a weapon and multiple motor vehicle offenses. His bail was set at $100,000 full cash Johnson was also charged possession of a handgun and possessing hollow point bullets. His bail was also set at $100,000 full cash. Both were sent to Camden County Correctional Facility in default of bail.
