This year the fourth Sunday of Easter, Good Shepherd Sunday, was my fourth observance of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life as your diocesan bishop. In celebration, we held our annual Mass and iRace4Vocations 5K run and 1.3 mile walk at Washington Lake Park in Sewell. It is estimated that about 1,300 people joined us throughout the day, enjoying the park, the outdoors, the company, food and drink, and a free T-shirt with the iRace4vocations and Diocese of Camden logos boldly displayed on them. What’s the point of all this? What is achieved? This gathering of families, young people and senior citizens from around the diocese gets the message out LOUD and CLEAR that our diocese needs diocesan priests and that religious communities of women and men need candidates. The Gospel for Good Shepherd Sunday this year referred to hearing and following the...

April 21, 2016, at 1:24 PM | By Adam Cassandra | The rector of the Jesuit community at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, Calif., thinks LMU is justified in honoring the life of former President Bill Clinton as long as it’s clear that the University is ignoring all of the immoral and evil actions committed in the past, and present, by Clinton when bestowing that honor. The student-run Los Angeles Loyolan recently reported that Father Allan Figueroa Deck, S.J., rector of the LMU Jesuit community, responded to protests and criticisms of LMU’s honoring of Clinton by expressing his full support of the decision. “In conferring this honor LMU does not endorse all of Mr. Clinton’s past or current policies nor condone all his actions,” Fr. Deck stated. “Rather, the University recognizes the extraordinary service he has given to civil society and his lifetime connection to Catholic and Jesuit...

The company itself admitted in court that it padded employees’ salaries, essentially IMAGE SOURCE http://www.costaricantimes.com/ funneling political donations through its staff to skirt contribution limits. The shareholders and rank-and-file workers made regular personal contributions of $300 or less, avoiding disclosure requirements and making it impossible for anyone outside the company to notice what was going on. They were later reimbursed through bonuses. The scheme was so well thought-out, the state had said, that the company would “bundle” personal checks from the employees to send to political candidates statewide, feeding the campaign coffers of many of the elected officials who were responsible for awarding the company with public contracts. An investigation by The Star-Ledger found that hundreds of politicians received money from the firm, including some of the state’s most influential power brokers. The scheme lasted for six years, the state said, and involved hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign...

April 22, 2016 On April 15, 2016, the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife (Division) deployed acoustic receivers in the Delaware Bay to track migration patterns of Atlantic sturgeon. For a fifth year, 19 receivers have been set in water depths generally less than 20 feet. Those fishing in inshore waters may encounter white buoys marked "NJDEP Research". As part of a multi-state collaborative effort, the Division has partnered with several states to develop a multi-year effort directed at providing state, federal, and regional management authorities with information necessary to successfully conserve and ultimately restore the population of sturgeon in the mid-Atlantic region. With the endangered species listing of Atlantic sturgeon effective April 6, 2012, research on this species has gained in significance and importance. The Division's portion of the project is to purchase, assemble, deploy and maintain 19 receivers in the Delaware Bay. Data is downloaded monthly from each...

Friends, I am so excited to share this information with you. Incumbents very rarely agree to debates in primaries unless they absolutely have to. In fact, as far as we can tell, this is the first time ever in this district. This debate is a testament to the work we have all done together. We have made it clear that Mr. Norcross will not be allowed to simply use his brother's connections to buy his seat in Washington. We the people determine who represents us. I have absolute confidence that after the debate, it is going to be clear for voters in South Jersey who to vote for. (And, it certainly isn't going to be the candidate that takes special interest dollars, votes with Republicans, and is the embodiment of machine-corrupt politics!) We are so close to winning this election. Any help you can give to make sure we are...

TRENTON - Based on comprehensive new scientific information, including extensive data compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey, the Department of Environmental Protection plans to propose amended septic density standards for northern New Jersey's Highlands region. The proposal will continue to provide high standards of water quality protection, while providing modest opportunities for job growth and economic development where appropriate. "The proposed septic system density standards provide a common sense, science-based approach to protecting the region's precious water supplies, while creating reasonable additional opportunities for economic growth and jobs," said DEP Commissioner Bob Martin. The DEP will formally propose the amendments through publication in the New Jersey Register on May 2. They are based on tens of thousands of water quality data points, compared with barely a few hundred when septic densities were first developed about a decade ago. The DEP is proposing amendments to rules promulgated under the Highlands Water...

By CNS Staff (April 23, 2016)--Georgetown University officials must take full responsibility for the scandalous, immoral and anti-Catholic comments made by the president of Planned Parenthood to students yesterday — with the full approval and defense of the nation’s oldest Catholic university — and they should make immediate changes to their speaker policy to uphold truth and avoid endangering the souls of their students. The administration’s disclaimers about not endorsing guest speaker views and appealing to free speech arguments cannot be taken seriously as excuses to what students were exposed to yesterday. There was no academic benefit for students, nor was this event an attempt to aid students in the pursuit of truth and knowledge. Cecile Richards’ lecture at Georgetown was nothing more than a pep rally for Planned Parenthood and the terrible, evil work that organization is openly committed to doing. By Andrew Collins It began with Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant’s state of the state speech at the Capitol in January. The governor wanted a middle-class tax cut, but there was a catch: a gas tax increase to offset the revenue loss. “There is no reason we cannot balance an increase in fuel tax with an equal and sufficient tax reduction,” Bryant said. But it turns out he was wrong. Mississippi lawmakers would find plenty of reasons to avoid raising the gas tax. Mississippi has a relatively low gas tax at 18.8 cents per gallon, which ranks 44th among states, but when combined with federal taxes it still adds up to a hefty sum – a tax of 36.4 cents on every gallon of gasoline. It should come as little surprise, then, that public opposition to raising the tax remains high. A poll of 500 voters commissioned shortly after Bryant announced...

If Steve Santarsiero is walking through Core Creek Park in Bucks County and no one is around to hear him speak, is he still lying about his record? Santarsiero got called out this morning by non-partisan PolitiFact for his false claim to have written “PA’s Gun Safety Law.” The fact checkers aren’t buying his lies, correctly stating the last gun safety law was written in 1995 before Santarsiero was even elected and that a universal “gun safety” law in Pennsylvania that Santarsiero takes credit for passing doesn’t even exist. Gary Marcucci, a good friend, a former resident of Gloucester City and graduate of Gloucester City High School, Class of '61 sent in this information about his fond memories of his hometown. FILE PHOTO GROWING UP GLOUCESTER--Pictured above at a Saturday night wedding reception (taken sometime around 1963 or 1965) are : from left, George Cleary, (look close you can just see him) Ed Simila, Lou Grello, Bob Seufert and John Azzari, all from Gloucester City. The young ladies are unknown. And I don't know who got married that day. The guys were about 18 to 20-years- old at the time. Listen real hard you can almost hear Azzari and Seufert laughing. by Gary Marcucci (cnbnews.net)The first place I...

April 21, 2016 Bill Donohue, of The Catholic League, comments on bias at the New York Times: Yesterday, New York Times reporter Laurie Goodstein wrote a blog titled, "Sex Abuse and the Catholic Church: Why Is It Still a Story?" Because reporters, especially those at the Times, love to cover such stories, even if almost all of the abuse occurred decades ago. By contrast, stories of abuse happening right now in the public schools are of little interest. It's actually more profound than this. Two months ago, the Times did a story on a seminarian from Ohio who was arrested for seeking out young Mexican girls to molest. Yet the Times did not run a story today on yesterday's sentencing of a middle school teacher from West Harlem who was convicted of sexual abuse. In October 2015, Adiyemi Prowell was charged with sexually assaulting six students. When school officials initially...

By Eric Boehm / April 20, 2016 / A panel of judges has unanimously affirmed that ridesharing services have the right to operate in Pennsylvania. The decision comes after a group of taxi companies had filed suit against the state’s Public Utility Commission, which last year gave a temporary two-year operating license to an Uber subsidiary, Rasier-PA LLC. The taxi operators argued that Uber did not meet the PUC’s standards for safety, insurance coverage and cost effectiveness. A unanimous panel of judges in the Commonwealth Court said Tuesday those arguments were without merit. Judge Renee Cohn Jubelirer, who wrote the opinion issued Tuesday, said those arguments were without merit. “The PUC concluded that the criminal background checks and driving history record review proposed by...

It started with just one name: Prince. The name suggested royalty, of course, and swagger. Above all, it was enigmatic. Who has the audacity to arrive out of nowhere with such a grandiose title? It was around 1980, way before we understood that Prince songs such as "Purple Rain," "1999" and "When Doves Cry" would become…

A trade association that represents the world’s largest Web companies, like Google, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, and Uber just endorsed the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP.) It’s hard to see this as anything but betrayal. Tech experts from every major advocacy group working to defend Internet users’ rights vehemently oppose the TPP, because it poses a dire threat to freedom of expression online. The good news is that one of the Internet Association’s biggest members, Reddit, has already come out against the TPP and distanced itself from the Internet Association’s stance. [1] If we can get other tech companies to follow suit, it would be a major victory in our fight to stop the TPP. But they’ll only do it if we push them. Take action now: tell members of the Internet Association to disavow the Internet Association’s endorsement of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement because the TPP lacks transparency, undermines our basic...
