CNB HUNTING/FISHING DELAWARE: Latest installment in “Wetlands 101” video series –

“Restoring Wetlands: Restoration Stories” – now on DNREC’s YouTube Channel DOVER (Feb. 19, 2016) – The sixth installment of DNREC’s “Wetlands 101” video series – “Restoring Wetlands: Restoration Stories” – premieres this week on DNREC’s YouTube Channel. The series is produced by the Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Program within DNREC’s Division of Watershed Stewardship to educate Delawareans about wetlands, while promoting the idea that everyone can make a difference in the continuing challenge of wetland preservation. Approximately 80 percent of Delaware’s wetlands are privately owned, and with the elimination of more than half the state’s original wetlands since the 1700’s, options for Delawareans to protect and rejuvenate their lands are vital. Part 1 of the “Restoring Wetlands” feature, titled “Restoring Wetlands: Facing Challenges,” addressed some of the common causes for wetland damage, degradation or loss. The new video highlights solutions for reversing that loss. Part 2, “Restoring Wetlands: Restoration Stories,”... Read more →

Counterfeit Cabs ; Auto Broker Who Used Salvage Vehicles as Taxis Sentenced | FBI Investigation

02/19/16 Every day in communities around the nation, the FBI works with its state and local partners to identify and arrest criminals who threaten public safety—including terrorist groups, violent gangs, drug trafficking enterprises, and producers of counterfeit pharmaceuticals, auto parts, and airplane parts. Most recently, the FBI, in conjunction with the Inspector General for the City of Chicago, conducted an investigation into a fraud scheme that involved the illegal use of salvage vehicles as taxis on city streets—a scheme that potentially put the riding public at risk. Last month, Chicago auto broker and taxicab operator Alexander Igolnikov was sentenced to a federal prison term after previously pleading guilty to conspiracy to transport, receive, and possess a counterfeit security—in this instance, that “security” was an illegally obtained clean vehicle title for a salvage car. A vehicle can receive the “salvage” designation—usually from a state motor vehicle agency—for a number of reasons,... Read more →

CNB Medical: The Gross Things Living In Your Contact Lenses

Contact lenses have made our lives easier by giving us “20/20 vision” without having to wear a pair of glasses. Pure optical have the best range of contact lenses for you to look at. With this great freedom, comes great responsibility, and failure to take care of our lenses could potentially lead to blindness. In Gross Science's latest video, “What's Living On Your Contact Lenses?”, host Anna Rothschild explains, contact lenses wearers are more susceptible to having germs like bacteria, fungi, and amoebas “eat” our eyes out because extensive lens use can easily trap them in our eyes. Our eyes have developed lightning-quick defenses to kill germs that land on our eyes. These defenses are so strong, that scientists studying the human eye are starting to learn new information for how to keep other parts of our body pathogen-free. However, these germs are extremely prevalent, because their ability to adapt... Read more →

Brussels Sprouts Cash

February 19, 2016 Weekly Wastebasket Volume: XXI No. 7 In the current fiscal climate only the Pentagon receives so much money they have to invent new programs to spend it all. Just a couple of years ago – when Congress was larding up the Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) account far above the Administration’s request – a brand new program was born to absorb some of the tsunami of cash. Enter the so-called European Reassurance Initiative (ERI.) Less than a billion dollars when the Obama Administration first proposed it, this year’s request is for $3.4 billion. You might wonder how this new program differs from what the United States already does to “reassure” our European allies – pay 22% of the total bill at NATO, headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. YOUR MONEY: Gloucester City's Fleet of 141 Vehicles/Equipment is Valued at $5.4 Million

William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNewsnet (CNBNewsnet) GLOUCESTER CITY N.J. (February 19, 2016)If you travel around the City of Gloucester City you can’t help to notice a large number of city-owned trucks and cars driving past. Gloucester is not a big city; it is about 2.78 square miles. No doubt that is one of the reasons why you will always see a police car, a fire engine, a highway department vehicle, a public works vehicle, water department vehicle, housing vehicle drive by. Even so there are times when so many city cars/trucks are going up and down Broadway you think it is a parade. It also makes one wonder if there might be too many vehicles in use. For example, during the summer, there were five public works employees putting together the new playground equipment at Martins Lake. Parked nearby as they worked on the project were five city trucks,... Read more →

The one-day field session consists of students working with instructors to complete an extensive field walk, mandatory live-fire session and concludes with a mandatory written exam. Hunters who wish to use a rifle/muzzleloader who did not previously complete the Rifle Hunter Education Course (discontinued) must now complete the Firearms Course to obtain a Rifle Permit. Let’s Talk about Rx | Caregiver Stress

Plenty of programs stress the importance of talking to teenagers about the dangers of drug misuse. But who’s talking to seniors? It’s the ultimate irony: these remedies save lives, but also have the potential to sicken or even kill those seniors who may most need the treatment. Oftentimes, medication management is a difficult subject to broach because it is so personal and something seniors may have taken care of on their own for a very long time. There are plenty of questions to ask a senior to help determine whether he or she could be at risk, from “Do you know why you are taking this medication and how it’s supposed to help you?” to “How do you manage to keep track of all those pills?” Remember, talking today could help ensure that an older adult stays independent longer. The Let’s Talk about Rx℠ program provides a number of resources... Read more →

FBI Investigation: Egg Donation and Surrogacy Scam

California Woman Robbed Would-Be Parents of Money and Hope 02/16/16 Allison Layton, who owned a California company called Miracles Egg Donation (Miracles), claimed she was in the business of helping infertile couples have children. But her business turned out to be a fraud, and she ended up stealing her victims’ hopes and dreams as well as their money. Would-be parents paid Miracles tens of thousands of dollars—sometimes their life savings—for egg donation and surrogacy services that Layton promised to coordinate. Instead, during a three-year period beginning in 2008, she defrauded couples, egg donors, and surrogate mothers while living a lavish lifestyle off the proceeds. “This was not a typical white-collar case,” said Special Agent Dana Eads, who led the investigation from the FBI’s Los Angeles Division. “Many of the victims were in a vulnerable place in their lives—working against their biological clocks and trying to afford this expensive and time-consuming... Letters: Democrats Waving White Flag in PA-06

It looks like Democrats are officially waving the white flag in PA-06. The only Democratic candidates to file against Ryan Costello before Pennsylvania’s filing deadline yesterday were Lindy Li and Mike Parrish. Lindy Li is the candidate who originally filed in PA-07 and then decided she wanted to run in PA-06 instead. She is also notorious for her recent interview with The Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report where she left the interviewer feeling “speechless and confused” and described Li as “too ambitious and idealistic.” Mike Parrish isn’t in much better shape. His most recent FEC filing shows that he has $27,711.59 cash on hand. Enough said. NRCC Comment: “From the second Ryan Costello was elected, all Washington Democrats could talk about was how they would defeat him after only one term in Congress. Now their tune is changing since they are officially stuck with two incredibly uninspiring candidates in Mike... Read more →

In many cases, seniors have been managing this aspect of their lives on... Read more →
