Rider’s Locklear Preseason All-MAAC

Broncs Picked 7th of 11

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Rider University senior James Locklear was named to the Preseason All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Baseball Team by a vote of the MAAC coaches.

“James had an excellent junior year and became a plus offensive player,” said Rider head coach Barry Davis, the 2015 MAAC Coach of the Year.  “I would find it hard to believe he would not be on the preseason team.””

Locklear (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) earned First Team All-MAAC honors last year when he batted .341 vs. MAAC pitchers, .302 overall with 48 hits in 45 games.  Locklear finished 10th in the MAAC in stolen bases last season (14-18).

Rider, the defending regular season champion, is picked to finish seventh in the 11-team league.   The Broncs were 15-6 in MAAC play last year but graduated a dozen players, all of them starters or key bullpen pitchers.

Canisius finished second behind Rider last season but won the Championship Tournament and is picked to finish first in the MAAC this year. The MAAC season opener is March 25-26 at Monmouth.  Monmouth is picked fourth in the Preseason Poll behind Quinnipiac and Siena.

The 2016 season begins February 26 -28 in South Carolina.
