LAWRENCEVILLE—18 home games, a tournament in South Carolina and the annual trip to the Rebel Spring Games highlight the 47-game 2016 Rider University softball schedule that was announced on Tuesday.
“We are excited to get the season started,” said Jaclyn Timko who is in her first season at Rider. “The team is working hard to prepare for the rigors of the conference.”
Rider opens play at the Winthrop Tournament in South Carolina, facing opponents Wagner, Appalachian State, Towson, Brown and the host Eagles from February 26-28.
Pending field conditions, Rider is scheduled to open the home slate with back to back games against North Carolina A&T March 7-8 at Herb and Joan Young Field, beginning at 2pm.
The Broncs then head to the warmer confines of Orlando, Florida where Rider will face Drexel, Florida A&M, Albany, Bucknell and Indiana State as part of the eight games at the Rebel Spring Games March 13-17.
Rider returns home for a non-conference doubleheader against Army on March 20 at 1pm.
Other home non-conference contests include Penn on March 26, Princeton on March 30, Villanova on April 20 and La Salle on May 4 with Rider facing out of conference road opponents Fairleigh Dickinson, Lafayette and Columbia.
Rider opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play on April 2 at Monmouth and host Saint Peter’s in a MAAC doubleheader on April 3 at 1pm. The Broncs also host Manhattan at 1pm on April 16, Marist April 24 at 1pm and conclude the regular season against Quinnipiac at 1pm on May 7. The doubleheader against the Red Foxes on April 24 has been designated as senior day.
The MAAC Championships are scheduled for May 11-15 and the six-team tournament will be hosted by the conference regular season champion.
