Mount Ephraim Tax Preparer Charged with Three Counts of Forgery and One Count of Theft

CAMDEN CITY NJ (October 30, 2015)--Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Mount Ephraim Police Chief Brian Beppel reported a tax preparer is facing charges for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from a client.

Marc Mecca, 54, of Mount Ephraim, is charged with three counts of forgery and one count of theft by failure to make required disposition of property received.

It is alleged Mecca forged the victim’s signature on three United State Treasury checks totaling $9,467 and deposited the funds into his own account in June 2013.

Charges were filed against Mecca in June 2015 after the victim, a Sea Isle City man in his 40s, reported to Mount Ephraim Police that he did not receive his federal income tax refund checks for three years of filing.

Mecca was indicted on all four counts by a grand jury in September 2015.  He is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday at 9 a.m. before Superior Court Judge Gwendolyn Blue.

Anyone with information or who believes they may be a victim is urged to contact Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Spence by calling the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office at (856) 225-8400.

Information may also be emailed to [email protected].

All persons charged with criminal offenses are innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.

Released Friday, October 30, 2015
