The Girl Scouts of Deptford, Woodbury Heights and Wenonah - are hosting a peanut butter, jelly and bread drive and sandwich making event at the Deptford Skating and Fun Center on Thursday, October 29th at 6:30 in the evening.
This is their second year running this event. Last year the Girl Scouts made just shy of 1,300 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the Cathedral Kitchen in Camden. They serve hundreds of meals to homeless people every day. This was a HUGE success last year.
The night of this years event the DSC is open to the public and is accepting loaves of bread in lieu of admission. The Girl Scouts of the ECO Service Unit will be making the sandwiches in the back. Their goal is to make 2,000 sandwiches this year. The support from the community has been AMAZING and the troop is confident they will EXCEED the 2,000 sandwich goal, thanks to generous donations from the Girl Scout families and the community.
Nick Mazeikas from the Deptford Skating Center has been a great support to the girls - always willing to host events for the girls. They are very community oriented.
And a big thanks to Rebecca Vanhoof and the other Girl Scout leaders for running this event, and being a strong positive influence on the children.
