This week, the Camden County Police Department recognizes three officers – Virginia Matias, Brandon Moreno and Shane Franz – whose communication and teamwork led to the apprehension of a dangerous fugitive.
Officer Moreno has served for four years in law enforcement while Officers Matias and Franz have been police officers for two years. All three are assigned to the department’s Neighborhood Response Team.
On the afternoon of Sept. 23, Officers Matias and Moreno were on directed foot patrol addressing quality of life issues in the area of N. 5thand State streets. The officers were aware that a suspect wanted for a recent armed robbery could be in the area. While engaged with another individual, Officers Matias and Moreno observed a male riding a bicycle who matched the description of the armed robbery suspect and quickly alerted Officer Franz who was nearby. Officer Franz was able to locate and stop the male, and upon investigation he was confirmed as the armed robbery suspect. He was placed under arrest without incident and was subsequently charged with multiple offenses.
“Through their alertness and teamwork, these three officers ensured the arrest of this dangerous suspect – they deserve to be recognized for their outstanding police work,” said Lt. Felix Rivera.
We honor Officers Virginia Matias, Brandon Moreno and Shane Franz as Camden County Police Department Officers of the Week. Also nominated were Officers Idalia Alicea and Joshua Soper.
