FREE LUNG CANCER SCREENING DAY SET FOR NOVEMBER 7th AT KENNEDY CANCER CENTER

ARE YOU A SMOKER OR FORMER SMOKER?

Washington Township, NJ – A special FREE CT lung screening is set for Saturday, November 7th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kennedy Cancer Center, 900 Medical Center Drive, Sewell.  Interested participants can apply to take part if they meet all of the following criteria:

                You are:

    • … between 55 and 74 years old
    • … have smoked at least a pack of cigarettes a day for 30+ years, or 2 packs a day for 15 years
    • … are currently a smoker, or have quit within the past 15 years
    • … do not have a  history of lung cancer

If you meet the above criteria, and are interested in undergoing a free low-dose CT lung screening, please call (856) 218-5324. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

The Kennedy Cancer Center -- a designated Screening Center of Excellence by the Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) for its ongoing commitment to responsible lung cancer screening – has offered low-dose CT lung screenings FREE of charge since Fall 2013 to eligible area residents.

Of the top four deadliest cancers in the U.S. (lung, prostate, breast and colorectal), lung cancer is the only one not subject to routine screening. Based on the findings of the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST), Low-Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) lung screening can save lives of people at high risk for developing lung cancer.

LDCT lung screening is quick, easy and results in a minimal amount of radiation exposure. Most private insurers and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) do not currently cover this type of screening, and the majority of hospitals charge a self-pay rate for this exam.

Please note: While the Kennedy Cancer Center’s LDCT lung screening exam is free for pre-approved participants, any additional testing or evaluation performed as a result of recommendations arising from the LDCT lung screening exam is not free of charge and will be billed to your insurance in the customary fashion.
