Claudia Sherry a dear sweet person who didn't have an enemy in her life, according to her friends, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 1. “Kind”, “giving”, “cheerful”, and “caring” were just some of the adjectives they used to describe this loving mother, wife and soul mate.
“‘Sweet Caroline’ was a favorite song of mine and Claudia’s,” said Janet Bevan. “ And my song title for Claudia is ‘Sweet Claudia’”. “Claudia always wore a smile and had a kind word to say about everyone. Claudia was the best listener and most forgiving friend. She always saw the good in everyone and no one was a stranger around Claudia, she made you feel so comfortable and welcome. The beautiful cards and notes Claudia wrote to me will remain in my treasure box….Claudia was indeed a treasure herself!”
Donna Henefer said Claudia was her best friend and sidekick:
“Where do you start when describing an angel here on earth. Claude had a deep, loving, understanding of life. No matter how she felt, she could always put a smile on your face, and make you feel like everything would be okay. She had God’s gift with words and a heart of gold. I can’t imagine a life without Claude. She will be with me in spirit always. I loved her so very much and always felt her love for me. May she rest in peace with her lovely daughter Lisa. God bless the Sherry family.”
Echoing some of the same remarks, Connie Cleary said, “You can count your blessings if you were lucky enough to have someone like Claudia as a friend. Billy and I have so many fond memories of our trips to the mountains with the Sherry, Bevan, Brandt, and Henefer families. Every winter we traveled to the Poconos for a weekend in February. Just couples at first and eventually we took the kids.
“One year we all signed up for ski lessons. It was a bitter cold day. When the wind gust died down, Claudia yells, ‘Mart no one should be made to do something they don’t like. And I don’t like being out in the cold freezing weather.’ We all laughed. We were all thinking the same thing.
“There was also the year at the shore, we were talking about our childhood memories. Someone said they remembered the guy who walked around the neighborhood selling clothes props. Another said they remembered the waffle wagon that was pulled throughout the city by a horse. The homemade waffles were out of this world. Claudia speaks up, ‘Do you remember the guy who use to walk through your neighborhood bitting off the tails of cats?’ Claude was dead serious. Everyone laughed and laughed until they had tears in their eyes.
“I will cherish those fond memories of Claude and many more forever. She was a dear, dear friend and we miss her. “
Bill Cleary said, “If Claude was here with us today reflecting on her life, she would agree, I believe, with this Michael Landon quote, ‘Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all.’”
Claudia Jeanette Sherry (nee Mackie) born February 28, 1943, is survived by her loving husband Martin of 52 years and her two sons Martin and Ryan. A former resident of Camden City and Gloucester City, Claudia will be rejoining her daughter Lisa (Deceased March 21, 2010) in heaven.
