CNB Crime: Kevin Atkinson Arrested for Attempting to Extort Haddonfield Attorney

6a00d8341bf7d953ef016305ae77b1970d-320wiCamden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Haddonfield Police Chief Ted Stuessy reported a Cumberland County man was arrested yesterday for an alleged attempt to extort money from a Haddonfield attorney.

Kevin Atkisson, 25, of Vineland, is charged with two counts of second-degree attempted extortion.

The victim called authorities on Wednesday after a man identifying himself as “Kevin” contacted him and advised that he wanted $500 in exchange for incriminating photos of the victim.

After speaking with detectives, the victim called the suspect back and arranged a meeting place at a Haddonfield parking lot.  Officers conducting surveillance at the location observed Atkinson arrive in a car and take an envelope from the victim’s vehicle.  The suspect was immediately surrounded and taken into custody.

While being interviewed by detectives, Atkisson admitted to threatening the victim and indicated that the incriminating photos did not exist.  He was remanded to the Camden County Jail with bail set at $70,000 cash or bond.

Two other adults who were present with Atkisson were not charged in connection with the extortion attempt. However, one of the individuals was charged with possession of a hypodermic needle via summons and released.

All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.

Released Thursday, August 27, 2015.
