Kennedy Health’s Cancer Center Named a ‘Screening Center of Excellence’

Sewell, NJ – The Kennedy Cancer Center has been named a Screening Center of Excellence by the Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) for its ongoing commitment to responsible lung cancer screening. Kennedy is one of only eight LCA Screening Centers of Excellence in New Jersey; there are 355 nationwide.

LCA-designated Screening Centers of Excellence are committed to providing clear information, complying with standards based on the most up-to-date published practices, working collectively as a multidisciplinary team, and referring patients who currently smoke to tobacco cessation programs.

“We are thrilled to be part of this elite group of Screening Centers of Excellence, setting an example for responsible screening practices across the country,” said Kennedy Cancer Program Administrator Louise Baca, MSN, RN. “Low-dose CT screening has shown to be the only proven method to detect lung cancer at an early and treatable stage. Kennedy is dedicated to providing our patients with high-quality care and the resources they need to live healthy lives.”

For the past 18 months, Kennedy has offered free CT lung cancer screenings to area residents who meet qualifying criteria. More than 125 people have taken advantage of these screenings, which are funded through  the Kennedy Cancer Center’s Patient Assistance Fund. A special FREE CT lung screening event is set for Saturday, November 7th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kennedy Cancer Center, 900 Medical Center Drive, Sewell.  For more information, to find out if you are eligible, or to register, call (856) 218-5324Walk-ins will not be accepted.

“We are proud to work with Kennedy as a Lung Cancer Alliance Screening Center of Excellence,” said LCA President and CEO Laurie Fenton Ambrose. “Kennedy’s commitment to practice responsible lung cancer screening will lead to advancements in research, helping save many lives.”
