Rider University Baseball: Coaching Staff Complete
Saturday, August 29, 2015
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The coaching staff for the 2016 Rider University baseball team has been completed, head coach Barry Davis announced.
In July it was announced that Rider grad John Crane ’96 was returning to his alma mater to be the new pitching coach.
Joining Crane on the staff will be assistant coaches Jake McGeary and Matt Maher. “We are thrilled to have Jake and Matt on our staff this year,” said Davis, the 2015 MAAC Coach of the Year.
McGeary, of Bethlehem, PA, has served as the head coach of the Lehigh Valley Catz of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League and for the last three years as an assistant coach at Northampton County College. An affiliated scout with the Oakland A’s, McGeary has also coached at East Stroudsburg University and at Bethlehem Catholic High School.
“Having coached at many different levels, Jake he will bring experience to our program,” Davis said. “Jake will work exclusively with our catchers and our hitters and coach first base.”
McGeary is a 1988 graduate of West Chester University, where he was an honorable mention All-American catcher.
Maher is a 2009 graduate of Steniert High School, where he was twice an All-Conference selection and a Carpenter Cup member.
“Matt is beginning his college coaching career with us, but he comes from a solid baseball background and is a true student of the game,” Davis said. “Matt will work with our outfielders, work with our hitters, and coach third base.”
Maher graduated from Bridgewater College in 2014, where he was a career .270 hitter, including batting .311 as a junior.
Maher served as an assistant coach at Nottingham High School this past spring.
