CNB CRIME: Lithuanian National Arrested in Avalon for Aggravated Sexual Assault

Cape May Court House, New Jersey – County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Avalon Police Chief William McCormick, announce the arrest of Egidijus Riaubys, a 22 year old, Lithuanian national who resides in Avalon over the summer months on an International Work Visa for Aggravated Sexual Assault, which occurred on July 26,2015, at approximately 3:00am, in the 2300 Block of Ocean Drive in Avalon.
There, Officer Ashworth and Officer Manning of the Avalon Police Department were patrolling the neighborhood on bike-patrol and came upon a male subject assaulting an unconscious female. Officers immediately detained the male, who was later identified as Egidijus Riaubys. The victim was a 28 year old female, from Pennsylvania, who was transported, treated and later released from the Cape Regional Medical Center.
Further investigation by the Avalon Police Department's Detective Division, the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office resulted in Riaubys being charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault, a crime of the first degree, and Lewdness, a crime of the Fourth Degree. Individuals convicted of a first degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment of up to 10 to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison, and persons convicted of a fourth degree crime are subject to a term of imprisonment up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
Prosecutor Taylor commends the officers of the Avalon Police Department.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
