Navy veteran pitches his way to the major leagues

The American Legion - June 29, 2015 Mitch Harris was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 13th round of the 2008 amateur draft, but his dreams of pitching for a major league team were put on hold while he honorably served his country – a commitment he had to fulfill as a U.S. Naval Academy graduate. During his five years of service he never lost sight of his dream, which became a reality when the Cardinals called him up from their minor league Triple-A affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds, to pitch against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 25. His Major League Baseball debut made him the first Naval Academy graduate to appear in the major leagues in 94 years and the second ever. The right-hander from Belmont, N.C., spent his summer days playing Legion Baseball in Gastonia, N.C., before playing four years for the Navy Midshipmen. After graduating from... Read more →

Commentary: TMZ Rips Bristol Palin

June 29, 2015 Bill Donohue comments on a June 28 episode of TMZ: A female commentator and a male announcer on TMZ took after Bristol Palin, zeroing in on her recently announced pregnancy. Commentator: "So weird she doesn't believe in abortion, but she believes in just like raw dogging it all over." Announcer: "So, thanks, hypocrisy. You're the reason we have Catholic school girl porns. Congrats, Bristol!" Catholics always seem to get it, even when, as in this case—Bristol is not Catholic—it has nothing to do with us. More important is the anger that these professional celebrity monitors have for Bristol: It bothers them to no end that she has chosen to have her child born out-of-wedlock rather than terminate her pregnancy. We know what they would do. Bristol is a living reminder that motherhood carries responsibilities, something our culture sadly devalues these days. Contact Lew Leone, TMZ PR director:... Behind the Scenes with Operational Medics

Transcript | Download A Look Inside Our Washington Field Office's OpMed Program 06/23/15 The wounded man needed to be airlifted to a hospital immediately, and in the shadow of deafening helicopter blades whose wash was strong enough to knock a person over, special agents worked quickly to secure the patient to a stretcher and prepare to care for him in the close quarters of the aircraft. Although this was only an exercise, the highly trained members of the FBI’s Operational Medicine (OpMed) Program were focused on their mission—to provide care under the most stressful situations. Whether for a fellow agent engaged in a SWAT operation or a violent criminal injured during a high-risk arrest, the “medics,” as they are known, don’t distinguish between who needs treatment. The Washington Field Office has more than 20 members trained as emergency medical technicians (EMTs) or paramedics. “We are on hand during tactical situations... Read more →
