DEPTFORD NJ May 24, 2015--The rumors around Deptford are true, and after 37 years of business this weekend marks the end for the Freeway Diner in Deptford NJ. The For Sale sign has been up at least a year, and planned for the location is an iconic retail store.
The beloved restaurant is set to close Memorial Day Night... at 10pm. After a long career at the diner, the owners are retiring and retiring the diner at the same time. Market values have probably popped back up as Deptford and Route 42 are hot retail destinations now. Two new hotels are proposed directly across the street from the diner (the other side of the Rt 42 entrance).
The waitstaff says the owner talked to the family developing the Brooklawn Diner (which is set to open in just week), and it is hoped many of the Freeway staff will find a new home in Brooklawn.
